It's really pushing it for our rating system, though. The rating systems are pretty much useless these days. If you have children, you can go to screenit.com and decide for yourself which parts freak you out too much to have your kids see it. Or your mom see it. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 04.08.04 (8:32 am) Reply to: mblog Where are you, and what are the movie ratings there like?? posted by: mblog (reply) post date: 04.08.04 (10:53 am) Reply to: rosietulips I'm in California. The MPAA rating system is useless because it's so subjective. G movies can now have vulgar language. PG movies can have "four letter words" NC-17 movies hardly exist. There is nothing equivalent to Hong Kong Category III movies (not that they are the pinnacle of fine art or good taste), because the Christian Coalition would consider anything with brief nudity to be in the same category as hard core porn and will keep the theaters from showing it. But they don't mind extreme violence. So not only is the Passion of Christ an acceptable movie for little children, but if you do take a small child to see a PG movie (at the acceptable end of the range) you might be subjected to coming attractions that show hundreds of gunshots and people getting blown up all over the place. So the rating system does not protect children, (except from nudity, but they can get to see themselves and each other naked when nobody is looking) but it does protect adults from seeing anything with sensuality in it. Instead, adults can see foul mouthed people killing each other. |
