I know I couldn't with my so-called mother. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 04.25.04 (9:24 pm) Reply to: sunnyc My mom's too bad...I know I complain about her regularly...but I am sure I will miss her!! posted by: mblog (reply) post date: 04.26.04 (11:22 am) Your's makes as much sense as hi's or her's or it's (not in the "it is" sense) but I think we've gotten to the point where most people can't tell its from it's anymore, even though it's first grade material. (For anybody not familiar, first grade is the school level for six year olds in the US.) posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 04.26.04 (11:28 am) Reply to: mblog I was thinking about the "your's" thing. I didn't think it was right, but then I started to doubt myself because "'s: shows possession, and I thought.. "have I been wrong all along?" But "your's" appears at dictionary.com :-/ And it's worse that people don't seem to care about proper spelling!! posted by: mblog (reply) post date: 04.26.04 (12:15 pm) Reply to: rosietulips Your's does not appear at dictionary.com. They ignore the apostrophe when they search their database, but leave it in for the "nn entries found for [word]" part. That's called a bug. If you search for grape's, you will find the same thing. If you go back to "your's" and look at the actual entry and the examples, you will see that "your's" is not there. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 04.26.04 (1:34 pm) Reply to: mblog Oh! That is an unfortunate finding. And to think the first time I saw "your's" was in a newspaper. |
