He used to be cheap
03.28.06 (11:53 am)   [edit]

I dated this one guy briefly, and our circle of friends would joke around (behind his back, of course) about how CHEAP he was. Oh how times change.

Cheapo used to not want to go to really high-end restaurants because he felt he could cook just as well as the chefs in such establishments. And now he's decided he wants to be a dot-com-mogul. He's in the process of leaving his day job and focus solely on his Web site.

I think he's just riding on the coat tails of our mutual friend who's been very successful with his Web sites. There's good mentorship there, but Cheapo is counting his chickens before they're hatched. I can appreciate his enthusiasm. His site is doing okay, but he's not getting rich off it, yet. But he still calls himself a dot-com-mogul. *eyes roll*

Anyway, he recently spent $400 on a dinner for him and his girlfriend. I guess he's decided that fine dining isn't all that bad! I see him trying to be like our mutual friend. This friend was living this way years ago.

Now I'm feeling cheap. I can't imagine spending that much on dinner. At least not in my current financial situation. I'm not going to say EVER because you never know what could happen in the future (after all, I might win the lotto or something...). I must have dated the wrong guys when I was still dating. I think the most one ever spent on a meal was $150...

I have spent that much on dinner before and have had someone buy me such an expensive dinner but I think I have gotten a lot cheaper these days because $400 can buy a lot of other things like last longer than dinner.

It's all for show.. probably wants to let ppl know that his site is doing good. I'm a cheapo when it comes to certain things.

My God I can nearly feed my family on $400 a month, lol. I might be cheaper than I thought I was :)

$150 on a dinner is probably close to my most expensive meal out with a boyfriend. I think I would spend that much on a dinner if the restaurant was really nice and if it was a special occasion.

One day I'll experience a $400 dinner, but in the meantime, I will just get to hear about other people's experiences!! I don't think I'm in a place right now to be eating such dinners *L*

Yep, el Cheapo is definitely into more show these days. However, he still likes a good deal. Good bang for his buck!

I think I could probably feed myself 4 months with $400 *L* But maybe I will get that $400 dinner one day...before inflation sets in even more *L*

I'm so cheap that I'd never be able to enjoy something that expensive--unless of course I suddenly became independently (Donald Trumpesque) rich. Then, ya, I could probably wallow in it, lol. And don't worry about inflation dear, it's gas prices! Even if we could afford the dinner we'd not be able to drive to it, lol.
