I'm a fraud
04.10.06 (12:50 pm)   [edit]

Last week, I got 3 calls from a collection agency. They were for my dad, and their hours were not convenient for me to call them back. Also, they didn't have voice mail! I guess collection agents like to speak with people directly all the time.

I called "Ms. Grey" back, and told the woman she had been calling a number for someone who did not exist, and I told her I did not know for whom she was looking. But seriously, my phone number has been my own private number since I was 13. Whenever anyone calls looking for Mr. or Mrs. Tulips, I know they're of no significance to me.

When my dad moved, he didn't update his address or phone number anywhere, I think. He had gotten a parking ticket and decided not to pay for it. The collection agency had mailed the letter to our old address. That is just so like my dad -- to feel he is above everyone else. I hope his car doesn't get towed the next time he parks in one of the lots that gave him his ticket.

I hate getting parking tickets, too, but I always pay or dispute them.

And yay! I was given the day off next Monday for all efforts put in over the last couple of weeks for my deadline :)

Yes. Collection agencies call twice a day and wont stop until they've collected.

Ah yes, collection agencies. My father's brother died owing some money to some credit cards. Unfortunately, the value of his house had gone down in recent years so there wasnt even enough money there to pay for the mortgage. The collection agencies called my father several times a day for months and he would just calmly tell them that he was not obligated to pay his brother's debts and that he wasnt going to do it. One of them tried this whole song and dance about how he should feel guilty for not clearing up his brother's name by paying the debt. My dad just laughed and said that the credit card company should feel stupid for lending his brother money when there was no way in the world they would ever be able to collect. He offered to give them the address of the cemetary though if they wanted to try.

Creditors are persistent, annoyingly so. I hope they got the message loud and clear, and that you can have a restful Monday off!

Have a great day off! And in answer to your question on my blog, I was born in the States, but I moved back to Thailand when I was a kid.

Have you had experiences with a collection agency? I know they can get pretty nasty, but no one's ever had to come after me about a debt like that!

Collections agencies are ruthless! I remember applying at one, and we did some role playing. I came out too nice *L*

Thanks! Do you remember much about living in the States? Wait...silly question...how old were you when you left the States? Was it difficult to adjust living in Thailand?

I've often wondered about the people that work for collection agencies. I'm relieved to know you were too nice for the job, heh. :)

Yes, ma'am. Friend, my mum's ex-husband was addicted to the crack, and after they were to be divorced, and I sincerely prayed she'd get the house and we wouldn't be homeless, he retaliated by committed credit card fraud against her. She had more than $10,000 in fraudulent credit card debt. IC Systems called the house 2 times a day and found out her cell phone number. And wouldn't stop. She wanted to get equity out of her house so that she could return to her country, but he ruined that. But I told her not to get angry with him. Satan had me hating this man for years, and sinning against God as a result. But I refused to hate him, and turned to the Lord. Now, she just got her equity check two days ago and we're so thankful that the Lord has mercy, and we can get a new fridge and possibly go back to England. :-) Cheers!
Have a Good Friday.
