It's time...
09.13.06 (12:06 am)   [edit]

The VCR I've been using is on its last legs. It eats tapes and now the flappy flap thing flaps. It's freaky. The VCR turns on and turns off.

So, I must replace it. Should I:

1. Get a new VCR since it'll be cheap?

OR

2. Get a DVD recorder?

A PVR is out of my budget right now, so the above two are my only choices.

a DVD is a better option and convert all your VCR tapes into DVDs. have a nice day

I like my combo dvd/vcr player.
Because a few of my tapes are not availabe in dvd format , or are out of production.

My suggestion is to get a hold of a used VCR (since I'm sure there are many of them out there) to watch old VHS tapse and purchase a DVD recorder for new ones!
DVD's are the way of the future... what is the price differential for the different machines?

I am getting more tempted to get a DVD Recorder. But now you've reminded me about my own old tapes (like home movies) that I have to contend with! Oh dear.

Is the DVD part of your combo player just a player? I was just thinking how nice it would be to abe able to transfer my stuff from my VHS tapes to DVDs from the same machine!

Unfortunately, time is of the essence *L* I'm a desperate woman. I will have to check out Costco and Future Shop to see what is out there. It's too hard to tell online! Thanks for the great idea though!!

My suggestion is the VCR/DVD combo. The DVD recorder isn't bad either but I'm not very fond of the quality and the small problem that a large portion of them are not RW so you can only use the disks once. As tech happy as I am, I say go with the combo. I saw a Lite-On at Costco on the weekend for $149 and they also have a Pioneer combo for $199. Good luck!
