Do you like the people you work with or are you indifferent about them? I say you can always work your way up the ladder, but if you don't have a good wualiy network of people to do it with, you'll never make it to the top! My adives: just make sure you are going to enjoy the new environment/people... that is what makes or breaks a job!!! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 10.13.06 (10:53 am) Reply to: breakouttheglass Yes! I most definitely can...I love the idea that I can be there during the whole process. I don't want the job to be perk-less forever! It's an exciting time for the company. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 10.13.06 (10:54 am) Reply to: LadyG Thank you! I definitely have some things to think about! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 10.13.06 (10:56 am) Reply to: Fitgirl15 Everything about the job itself sounds pretty exciting. The environment sounds really engaging. The commute will kind of stinks...and I will definitely have to negotiate about vacation! They have offered two weeks of paid vacation and that is half what I currently have! posted by: Fitgirl15 (reply) post date: 10.13.06 (12:28 pm) Sounds promising! Make sure before offering that you plead your case for more paid vacation days!!!! If they give you 3 weeks would you take it for sure? I agree, you worked your way up to 4 weeks paid holidays, I think that's something that would be hard to give up! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 10.13.06 (3:04 pm) Reply to: Fitgirl15 I would take 3 weeks I guess (even though 4 would be better). I did fire back an email with lots of vacation questions (whether the 2 weeks was negotiable and if there would be opportunity to earn more vacation time). I was going to bank one week this year so I could have 5 weeks vacation next year. D'ooooh. posted by: thecyberwriter (reply) post date: 10.14.06 (12:10 am) Hi rosie! I was just in your position recently with a job offer (the new job I'm currently working at). It's definitely something you will need to sit down and think about. Take out a sheet of paper, get a pencil and make yourself a little list of pro's and con's for staying at your current job. That might give you some good brainstorming ideas....When I left my last job, there were WAY too many con's against me in staying. I knew in my heart that the time was right for me to move on. That didn't mean starting over would be easy - it never really is. But ultimately, you have to ask yourself: "Am I happy at this job? Can I advance? Where do I see myself in 6 months....or even 6 YEARS??" I know vacation time is important, as well as sick leave, but seriously, 2 weeks of vacation just starting out at a new job is really pretty good. At my old job, we had what the company called "TOP" time which stood for "Time Off With Pay." Unfortunately, this time was used for both sick leave and vacation time, so that kind of sucked....I know long commutes really suck too, and with gas prices being as high as they are, I'm really glad I work much closer to home now! :-)....I'm sure after thinking long and hard about the offer over the weekend, you will make the right decision - one way or the other! Do keep us posted, ok?? :-) posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 10.14.06 (1:54 pm) The way I see it, you basically know everything that you want out of this job. Monday I'd just call your contact person there ask about the vacation, the location, if known, where they'll be moving, other perks, etc. If his/her answers are pretty positive, I say go for it! Congrats. posted by: lynne (reply) post date: 10.14.06 (8:05 pm) congratulations! posted by: 69whisper (reply) post date: 10.16.06 (2:13 am) good good good, congrats posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 10.16.06 (10:52 am) Reply to: thecyberwriter I think I will be taking the job. The manager upped my vacation time by a week. I guess there is no harm in asking for what I'd like; I just hope I don't seem like a pain in the ass!!
