I'm thinking maybe a gift for Chinese New Year? posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (12:20 pm) Reply to: FinalyFree A red pocket is definitely a gift :) It's money that comes in a little red envelope. Married people give these to younger, unmarried people. It can be a couple of bucks and definitely up to much more. My mom gave me $50, and her friends gave me $10 each. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (12:21 pm) Reply to: FinalyFree Oh, and you can receive red pockets at other times like birthdays. They can be given any time, really! But definitely during Chinese New Year. posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (12:47 pm) Ooooh! Ok. Hey I'm liking you Chinese folks more and more, heh! I'm definitely up for a chance to rake in a little cash--of course I think I'd have to be 'giving' the dough instead of getting it, huh? lol posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (12:49 pm) Reply to: FinalyFree Yes, you'd definitely have to be a giver :D posted by: katz (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (2:20 pm) ohh yeah the red pockets... yeah time for the asian youngsters to get rich and then spend it all. the only think about Chinese new year I miss. Definately not the food. Well at least V's mom's cooking was not that great at all. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 02.20.07 (2:27 pm) Reply to: katz I was hoping to preserve my red pockets since those bills are usually nice and crisp! But I need to eat this month and pay bills, d'oh! I've experienced a lot of gross Chinese cooking, but my mom's is really good (to me, anyway). |
