Spain
04.19.07 (10:47 am)   [edit]

I started doing a bit of research on traveling in Spain. I've come to think that it's mostly North Americans that welcome shorts as regular attire in the summer.

Apparently, women tend to wear skirts and dresses in the summer (in fact, you get funny looks for wearing shorts whether you're male or female). Can anyone confirm this?? (Whatever happened to Andaloo?? He used to post here, and he lives in Spain...) I just bought some shorts for the upcoming trip!

Anyway, when I travel, I am a go-go-go kind of person. I'm okay with being up early and doing stuff well into the night. (No wonder I always feel like I need a vacation after a vacation...). I want to squeeze everything in. So imagine my reaction when I find out Mr. Nick is completely serious about wanting to do *nothing* but lay on a beach for 3 days in Spain.

My knee-jerk reaction was to put up the wall...not go to Spain at all...or see Spain all by myself while Mr. Nick did his beach thing. Being in Spain, I'd want to hang with Mr. Nick, but I'd want to get the most out of whatever city we're in (and not alone). Now I don't even want to plan anything :(

It's true. Spain and Portugal are not places where you usually see shorts during the summer. Kids seems to pass the rule but not really the choice for adults. On the other hand, those mid length pants with a bit of flare in them (sorry, I'm totally useless with some of this fashion talk) seem to be the rave.

As for travel with someone who wants to do nothing - hubby is the same as Mr. Nick and I'm the same as you - we've come to a happy medium over the years. I'll still find myself going off and doing stuff on my own but then, I'm ok with that too!

I told Mr. Nick I wanted to blend in with the locals, and we laughed about that. But I think I will try to bring mostly skirts. I have some knee length shorts, which I'll probably bring, too.

If the pants you're describing I've tried on in the past, they don't work for me...BWAHAHA They're like tight but with a lot of fabric at the same time.

I guess we'll have to work out a compromise. Too bad I can't have a travel clone!

I agree, I am a go-go person too. I actually cancelled a trip once with a friend becaus e I found out all she wanted to do was lay on the beach! UGHHHH... not cool!
I'm sure if Mr. Nick really wants you to go with him and enjoy yourself, he'll be able to muster up the energy to actually do something while he's there! Still plan the trip, just plan a few chill things to do as alternatives. :)

I was looking back on my old blog entries about my last trip to London. The friend I went with was preferred a slower pace, and I was so disappointed!

But Spain seems to have a much slower pace of life...I'd be crazy to sulk about going!! I am prepared to do separate activities!!

Spain is nice, plan things on your own if Mr,Nick wants to do nothing.

I've always felt that I needed to get the most out of a vacation that I possibly could, but my trip to the beach summer before last changed my mind. For 4 days I did virtually nothing but sit in front of the ocean, read books and sip margaritas! It was frickin wonderful, lol. Made me know for sure I could live in a little shack on the beach :)

Your vacation sounded lovely! Maybe I could give the beach thing a try. I didn't even go to any beaches when I went to Hawaii last summer! Only 8 weeks 'til I'm gone! YEEEEAH!

Don't people at the Kings County Office have better things to do than waste time leaving "anonymous" comments at strangers' blogs?
