But, persons of quality and depth with usually see through such a facade, and if a shallow and empty and mean person is behind all that surface attraction, interest will be lost quickly. In other words, "being hot" is a lot more important for kids than for adults. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (12:43 pm) Reply to: PastorDave I constantly remind myself that my cousin is younger than I am. I hope she doesn't get a rude awakening when her looks fade! But she is an interesting person with a lot of substance. It is a shame she puts her looks forward first! posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (1:08 pm) Being hot and intelligent is SUCH a curse. Poor Paris Hilton. LMAO posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (1:14 pm) Reply to: scubadiva Ugh! I was just reading some celeb gossip about Cameron Diaz today, and apparently she thinks there is prejudice against her and her films because she is pretty. posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (2:08 pm) It's for this reason I thought the internet was such a wonderful thing in the beginning. You got to know a 'person' first. Back in the old days pics weren't posted everywhere, and unfortunately a lot of people lied about their true appearance. But I think many people 'fell' for people they might not otherwise have because they spent so much time just 'typing'. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (2:11 pm) Reply to: FinalyFree Ah, the good ol' Internet days! When you wanted to know what the person looked like, you had to rely on snail mail! And wait for some print to come! I did have this one guy send me a photo of some totally hot guy! And then he sent me another photo that looked nothing like that first!! He admitted to what he did, but I don't remember why he did it. posted by: lenfanterrible (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (4:24 pm) Hi, Rosie. Great post. Constant remind. Brilliant final thought. PS. My brother is in Vancouver waiting for your cousin. What am I to tell him? posted by: drforbush (reply) post date: 05.11.07 (4:59 pm) Reply to: PastorDave I think that I have written about this before, but here it goes again. After losing fifty pounds I found that people do treat me differently. The girl at the gas station will punch my card for the free car wash a few extra times. People that would never even look me in the eye before will strike up a random conversation in the super market. Today the cashier at JC Penney's gave me a $10 discount. When I asked why, she said that there was a coupon in the paper that I could have turned in. Well, three years ago this would never have happened to me. Is it just coinsidence? I don't know for sure. It isn't like I'm going to make a million on this, but if I thought about it for a while maybe I could make a few thousand.... :-} posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 05.12.07 (6:13 am) Reply to: rosietulips It's something I struggle with on a daily basis. The world is soooo unfair. (I am kidding.) posted by: thecyberwriter (reply) post date: 05.13.07 (12:10 pm) I too will be the first person to admit that I'm not hot, but I would like to think I'm not ugly LOL :-) Looks will only get you so far and although they can make some things easier, they aren't everything. I would tell your cousin to have a backup plan for when gravity sets in and her looks start to diminish with age LOL posted by: themarina (reply) post date: 05.14.07 (1:23 pm) I'm not buying that attractive people and easier life thing. Sure, for some things they might get away with it but it can't be the same feeling as getting something because you DESERVE it or WORKED for it. That's just me though and you know what I look like. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.14.07 (2:55 pm) Reply to: lenfanterrible You can tell him my cousin is on the other side of Canada in all her hotness! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.14.07 (2:57 pm) Reply to: thecyberwriter I think it would kill her if I told my cousin she'd better find a backup when her looks go! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 05.14.07 (3:04 pm) Reply to: themarina I totally agree about the feeling when you get something after you work for it or deserve it! Years ago, I watched this thing on 20/20 where they did experiments...people needing help on the side of the road or applying for a job. They used people facing the exact same situation but one was made to look extra ugly and the other, attractive (using makeup). And the more attractive people had better luck in all situations. |
