(I know, it's a little late now!) If they make an offer, they'll send an offer letter and call (usually). If they discuss money/start dates, etc over the phone then that's an indicator that you can negotiate over the phone. If they leave the details to strictly writing, then I'd say it depends on your relationship with the person who is making the offer. He/she will be a lot more friendly with proffering the good news. You can always say you'd like to think about it and get back with them in a day (I'd do that anyway). Then get back via phone or email and tell them that you really want the position, that you think you could contribute significantly to the organization but... you need at least 250k a year, a car, and 6 weeks vacation a year. posted by: Fitgirl (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (8:37 am) You are too funny, Girl! Tyra Banks... LOL I hope you can get the end date you want :) posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (9:34 am) Heh, now I can't get that Tyra/America's Next Top Model image out of my head! lol. Crossing my fingers you hear something very soon ;) posted by: wolfen (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:36 am) I hope you get the offer. You can use your vacation time as your "notice" time...employers like to do that anyway so they don't have to pay out your vacation pay. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:52 am) Reply to: scubadiva That heel deodorant stick sounds messy! I am hoping to find some of those things you stick to the heel inside your shoe to cushion the scraping a bit. Thanks for the negotiation advice :) I really appreciate it! I've not really negotiated anything, ever! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:53 am) Reply to: FinalyFree Thanks! It's all in the hands of my references and the HR lady. Hopefully, my references are easy to reach, so I can get an offer by tomorrow! Did you know? Jay is now the Tyra of Canada's Next Top Model! posted by: bawdy (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:53 am) Ditch those shoes and wear comfy ones! Good luck with the job. Be thankful I'm not one of your references! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:54 am) Reply to: wolfen I wasn't sure if employers could count vacation time as notice time. I know my friend's company wouldn't let her do that. When you quit, do they still count your full vacation days? OR would it be prorated? I think if I quit now, I'd have only accumulated half my vacation. But I hope to get an offer soon! Like tomorrow! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:56 am) Reply to: bawdy My shoes are comfy pre-heel...BWAHAHAHA Hmm...perhaps you'd make an interesting reference...Blog buddies would make great references, no???? posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (10:57 am) Reply to: Fitgirl Time is of the essence now! I wanted the job offer last week. BWAHAHA They should have stopped wasting their time with any other candidate and offered me a job after the first interview ;-) posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (2:24 pm) If they are making you an offer - they want you. There is generally a salary range in which they have to work with (generally 10-15%). Don't be greedy - but if they come in under what you are worth, then tell them you'd like an opportunity to review it and get back with them the next day. Make them stew on it a bit. But if the $$ is good, don't quibble just take it. But get everything in writing. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (2:27 pm) Reply to: scubadiva Even before the first interview, I told them what kind of range I'd want (I know...you're not supposed to divulge such things so early in the game), and what they were hoping to dish out was definitely lower and not by a bit. So...I hope what they offer (if they do make me an offer) that is fairly close to what I was hoping for! We're all running out of time! I am leaving the country on Friday! posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.12.07 (4:15 pm) So have you told the company that you are quitting? (Dumb to quit before you have an offer letter!!!) If they said the range wasn't even close to what you need... how was that addressed? posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (7:42 am) Reply to: scubadiva No :) I wouldn't quit my current job without having something else lined up. The HR woman tried to sell me on their perks and benefits of the company, but since she's had so much time, I hope she'd have let the money people know of my demands. But quite frankly, I asked for a considerable amount more than what I am making now. If they offer me something higher than what I am currently making, I would be okay with that. posted by: bawdy (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (11:50 am) Reply to: rosietulips Sure, bloggers make great references. Which blogs have you been reading exactly? BWAHAHAHA! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (11:55 am) Reply to: bawdy Well, I read your blog for its annual updates! BWAHAHAA |
