I'm thrilled that I was offered the job! I am a little nervous about starting a new job, too... posted by: Twitchy67 (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (1:29 pm) YAY congrats rosie! And yet...bummer... posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (1:43 pm) Reply to: Twitchy THANKS! Bummer for whom? *L* posted by: wolfen (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (3:28 pm) I'm so happy for you! Good for you...now time to say goodbye to bad rubbish. posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (4:44 pm) Congrats on the offer. I still think you should wait to get the paperwork and tell the woman you'd REALLY like to work for them, however, financially, you're having concerns. Considering your experience level and what you can bring to the table, you really need x dollars. (The 10% more.) Maybe you can settle with 5% more. Or she can come up with something creative like a signing bonus or an incentive. 10% is not that much. They want to get you as cheap as they can - but tell her it would be a struggle financially and you can allude to still considering other offers. You really want to work with them, but you have obligations... And don't let them strong-arm you on the starting date. Tell them that you're sure they understand that you owe it to your former employer to assist in the transition... (Guilt them into it.) posted by: doeeyed (reply) post date: 06.13.07 (6:36 pm) I hope it all works out that you'll get the xtra $ and vacation time. All the best and congrats :) posted by: themarina (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (12:13 am) WOOOHOOOHOO! Congratulations! :) posted by: LadyG (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (12:24 am) Congratulations rosie, very happy for you. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (9:59 am) Reply to: wolfen Thank you! And I told gave my resignation letter to my boss today. I didn't have the heart to tell him how I really felt. He looked rather sad and disappointed! YEEEEAH! But that made me feel sad, too. *sniff* But oh well, that feeling shall pass! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (10:05 am) Reply to: scubadiva I hope to never have to negotiate again! I got back to them asking for more pay and more vacation time. They were okay with the later starting date. They wouldn't budge on anything else because they didn't want to give me special treatment. Apparently, the original pay they had in mind was way less. However, they are willing to do a salary review in 6 months instead of 12. And with the vacation thing, I am able to take time off in lieu of OT. *sigh* I hope I did the right thing. I still need to fax over my agreement. I already gave my notice to my boss. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (10:07 am) Reply to: doeeyed Thanks! I didn't get any of the extras I asked for (except I do get to start a week later). I am hoping I will love working there as much as everyone else and that I will forget about the things I didn't get. But honestly, I have been really unhappy working at my current job, so I think this change will be worth it! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (10:08 am) Reply to: themarina Thanks! No more commuting to Burnaby from Richmond!! And hello, Public Transit! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (10:08 am) Reply to: LadyG Thanks, LadyG! I am looking forward to getting settled in my new job! posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (10:52 am) You are very unhappy at the current job. Correct? Is there opportunity for growth with the new gig? You got this job, you can get another one if this is heinous - these aren't the only two companies in the universe that could use someone like you? You can work a lot of OT and take the 28 day cruise around Tahiti with me in November - right? LOL posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (2:01 pm) Reply to: scubadiva You make great points! It's not like my current (soon to be ex) company would have been able to keep me even if they tried to give me more money or perks. posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.14.07 (5:30 pm) It's an opportunity. You're clearly not a total slacker/waste of carbon since you had a job and landed another one while gainfully employed. Jobs come and go. MAYBE this new job isn't the right fit - but it was the impetus for you to get out there. MAYBE another position will fall into your lapt that will pay you heaps of money and give you 20 weeks of vacation a year. Unfortunately, nowadays, you always have to keep your eye out for other career opportunities. (I applied for a job last week - I enjoy what I'm doing but you never know!!!) posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 06.15.07 (10:22 am) Reply to: scubadiva You are always on the move! Ugh, I can't wait to get out of this place. Right now, two developers on the other side of my cube wall are on a conference call with someone. I guess it was too hard to use the conference room. I was just about to unplug my headphones and surf to my favourite Golden Oldies radio station on the web. And all the paperwork's been signed! I also realised that with this job, I'd still be making more than I was at this time of the year last year. So I guess it's not all that bad...But still...someone needs to pay for my European lingerie! posted by: scubadiva (reply) post date: 06.15.07 (6:10 pm) Things to look forward to... Cleaning out your desk. Vacation. New job. Overtime to afford lingerie. (Or just give it all up and you'll have even more $$$ for shoes) |
