Instead of fixing your knee he's convinced you to commit to his plan of action. Chiropractors help some people, but from what I've seen most of them encourage a long-term relationship that never really produces fantastic results...just results good enough to keep you coming back. posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 11.20.07 (6:51 pm) I'll be right up front about this, I have zero confidence in the profession of chiropractors, I have several friends that swear by them. I have dealt with very serious knee issues from age 11 when I experienced my first patella dislocation. Today I have extreme arthritis in both knees and substantial cartilage damage in both--the one has already had a scope performed. Now, granted I have documented knee issues and you don't, but there's no way I'd trust a chiropractor to treat even a very simple knee injury. I'd get a referral to a good ortho doctor and go from there. To me, those joints provide such a vital function it's just not worth the risk of mis-diagnosis or treatment. Hopefully I haven't offended but I'd tell anyone I cared about the in real life the very same thing :) posted by: FitGirl (reply) post date: 11.20.07 (8:10 pm) I too thought chiropractors were all quacks, until I finally found a *good* one! I asked my chiropractor why it require so many appointments to fix certain issues, and he explained it like this... there are many layers to an imbalance because normally you don't feel pain until it's too late to correct the initial small problem. So this is why they need to start correcting the most obvious surface issues first. Maybe there's something wrong with the alignment of your neck, which is why your chiropractor started their first. (However, if I have a accute pain, my chiropractor starts there first... but seeing as this was basically your chiropractors first time seeing you, he probably wants to see if aligning your neck first will correct the knee alignment issue too.) So he doesn't want to force you to come see in over and over, he's actually trying to elieviate the pain for a longer term then a *quick* one time adjustment might provide. PS... It might sound like I moonlight as a chiropractor, (Haha) I'm not... I just totally believe that they are legitament doctors that know what they are doing! I have benefited a lot from my chiropractor appointments... I often have neck tension issues, that he can fix about 3 visits! Godsend, I say!!! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 11.21.07 (7:48 am) Reply to: wolfen I'm still a little confused why he didn't really address my immediate problem. I told him it was a result of running for the bus! (I guess this is what I get for running in my flats instead of my usual heels!) He figured my knee pain was a result of having different leg lengths. *eyes roll* posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 11.21.07 (7:52 am) Reply to: FinalyFree Personally, I don't have much faith in chiropractors either. But I only went to this one because I've had a good experience with getting my knee fixed in a pinch. I hate hearing all those pops and cracks (they can't be good for the body?!) You haven't offended me at all! I appreciate your advice :) Thank you :) Maybe I will go see a doctor about my knee injury this weekend because it sure isn't feeling any better! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 11.21.07 (7:54 am) Reply to: FitGirl That's the problem...I knew I'd have to go in for an assessment, and I am well aware of my tight neck, shoulders, etc. I know how I can "fix" those things without seeing a chiropractor. He did speed up the process, I guess. But my knee was what I wanted dealt with first because I'm in pain right now! Other things I can ignore. I really don't think waiting around wearing orthotics for a year for this current pain to go away is the short-term solution. It's awesome that you have a good chiropractor! posted by: judypatooote (reply) post date: 11.21.07 (8:09 am) Hi Rosie, just wanted to send you a Thanksgiving Hug....have a great day... judy posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 11.21.07 (8:29 am) Reply to: judypatooote Judy, you are the sweetest! posted by: ggirl (reply) post date: 11.26.07 (12:12 pm) I would have thought the stiffness might be better addressed by more stretching? Just curious. :-) posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 11.27.07 (9:52 am) Reply to: ggirl Stretching is great for stiffness! He didn't even suggest it. I guess the chiropractor thought his cracking methods were best. I stretch almost every day. |
