It's all about the chiropractor
11.22.07 (12:33 pm)   [edit]

I can't wait to not have to see this guy again. I guess I could just cancel all appointments with him, but then I'd have to face his wrath at some point. Maybe this is how he drums up his business...by being pushy.

It looks like I am getting orthotics...I'm going to be having a really big Visa bill this month. At least some of my chiropractic and orthopedic costs are covered. (This is why I know I will have to see him again.)

This chiropractor seems to think his patients are dummies or something. Due to my numerous auto accidents, I have learned a thing or two about ergonomics and taking preventative measures for myself to keep my pain at bay.

Chiro: Did you change your computer set up at work?
Me: Not really. I am trying to take more breaks.
Chiro: Don't listen to your work! Listen to me! It's not about the breaks. It's about keeping your elbows at a 90-degree angle.
Me: My work doesn't set us up. I've done the best that I can.

If he wants to talk about ergonomics, he's left out a lot of information. I sit in a chair that allows my feet to touch the floor and my knees to be at a 90' angle. My keyboard is at bellybutton level. I have an Obusform support for my back. My chair's armrests are as low as can go and my mouse is also on my keyboard tray. My monitor is at eye level and slightly below. My setup is pretty good except when I need to use my mouse. It is a little far.

Me: What if my orthotics don't fit properly? Will I be able to exchange them? [What I was asking is if I'd have to pay again if I needed a proper fitting pair]
Chiro: Oh, they will fit properly. They will be made according to the scan.

Thanks for answering my question, buddy. And he showed me some exercises and had me do them.

Chiro: No, put your hand behind...No, not like that...behind. Did you watch me while I was showing you?

Actually, I did, but I couldn't see you, idiot...I had my glasses off, and you knew I came in wearing glasses. And his hand wasn't "behind" anything. Retard!

While I was doing one of the exercises, he asked me a question. I was concentrating so hard on the exercise that it didn't register for me to answer him.

Chiro: I asked you a question. Well?

I don't even remember what the question was anymore. It probably had to do with me looking at some videos on his Web site.

He sounds like a straight up dick head to me, maybe you need a second opinion!?! I think jumping into the verdict of "You need orthodics" on your second visit is a little bit much.
Did or do you wear orthodics now?

Actually, he told me I needed them on my first visit after he eyeballed my leg lengths and did the foot scan. I've never worn orthotics before and don't wear them now. I've always thought about trying some out, but no one's ever told me that I needed them.

One time I went to a podiatrist (that was a waste of time, too!). He watched me walk and showed me some stretches. He told me to go back to him later after doing stretches, and "maybe" we'd get me some orthotics. I never did go back!

Yeah, I agree with Fitgirl...he sounds like a quack. I wouldn't wear orthotics just because he says so without asking my family doctor to at least confirm that my legs are indeed much different lengths, requiring an adjustment. You could do damage to your back.

I'm not sure I could stomach 'paying' someone to talk to me like I was a child. Sheesh what an ass.

The chiro printed off this scan of my foot and I brought it to a doctor. I really dislike those walk-in clinic doctors...I waited over 2 hours, and I pretty much got a "what do you want?" I guess I didn't look very sick. Anyway, I showed her the printout and she wrote me a note for a pair of orthotics...didn't say much more than "mmhmm". Sheesh!

I must be a glutton for punishment because I have two more appointments with him. After that, that's it. I am never seeing him again. I just have to resist tellling him off!
