The bacon aroma is gone! It seems that my candle trick worked. Every time I go to Bath and Body Works I look for that candle: Lemon Verbena. It's my absolute favourite! Anyway, I lit the candle for like 10 minutes.

My boss is a jerk to his whole team when we don't live up to his expectations. Not only does the new developer feel like he sucks at what he does, but another developer got chewed out in front of the team during our meeting. "You didn't test properly. I am not happy about this. This is not good. This is very serious."

Homemade refried beans taste better the next day! My friends thought mine came from a can. I got my method off a variation I found on the 'net. I cooked some bacon in a cast iron skillet, removed the bacon and kept the drippings. Then I threw in a couple of smashed cloves of garlic and cooked those for a couple of minutes. After that, I added a jar of cooked pinto beans (with the liquid) and cooked away. Using a potato masher would have been better, but these beans were just mashed with the back of a wooden spoon until we got the consistency we wanted. No extra salt was needed.

Last night I had some girl friends over. I didn't really want to entertain in the first place and would have been happy enough going out for dinner. We've done our girls night in before, and I feel like everyone just ends up being cheap (sorry). Dinner ends up being a big dish of pasta with sauce. There might be some salad. Anyway, we had quesadillas.

I wish Canada had Trader Joe's. I used their mole sauce with shredded chicken, and it was tasty! The sauce has some kick to it, so I didn't use too much.

I am seeing that quack of a chiropractor again today. Hopefully it will be my last time FOREVER!

You're eating refried beans and are worried about the smell of bacon?

You sound surprised! There are things I want to eat but I don't always want to pay the price!

I've never bought candles at Bath and Body Works but I may have to pick some up the next time I'm down there - if only to eliminate the cooking smells. Nice!

I always add about a tsp. of bacon drippings and garlic to the canned variety also a dash of chili powder--perks them up a lot :)

I think any candle will do the trick! (But I am not sure if they have to be smelly candles)

I am scared of liking refried beans! And with bacon drippings! They can't be good for my heart...But I do have a jar of congealed bacon fat in my fridge right now...BWAHAHAHA

LOL. OK this will probably gross you out--but I (like most every other local cooking woman) always has a 'grease jar' or bowl or some vessel to store bacon drippings in, and it doesn't always live in the fridge!

I hope you use the unrefrigerated contents of the jar quickly!! My friend's ex-boyfriend used to keep a tin can of bacon grease in his cupboard near his garbage can and cleaning supplies. And he used that grease often!!

Honestly I don't use it that often, but I just like having it around, I guess. lol I don't think my mother ever prepared a meal without using it in some capacity--she didn't use much, just a tablespoon here and there to flavor something but it was very much a staple. I'm not sure I'd want to keep any edible near the cleaning supplies, LOL.
