I never tried it as a kid. I just figured you were always close enough to the other person and that's how you heard them! posted by: wolfen (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (11:42 am) I just use Bell. I never have problems, but I also probably pay a bit more because I never search for discounts. Sorry you're getting the headaches...customer service is abysmal these days. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (12:25 pm) Reply to: wolfen I didn't even know Bell had home phone service! I seem to be out of luck today because whenever I click the links at Bell's Web site for more information about anything, it tells me it can't find the page! posted by: Barnabus1 (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (1:22 pm) Quest at least in the US has a cheap just telephone service, I added 6.00 per month for mine for Caller ID which I no longer really need!! Now I'm getting my broadband cable through them, and my total phone bill will be aroung 65.00 dollars a month..had to make a 2 year commitment for that. I had their service, yet when I got "high speed internet...it was only 256K!! not the 1.5Mb they advertised...finally getting 1.5Mb!! Is it possible to google Phone service of Canada? Just a thought!!! Good luck!!! posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (2:21 pm) Reply to: Barnabus1 Thanks for the suggestion :) I will do some research when I have some time. I was hoping for a quick answer out there! I hear a lot about digital phone. posted by: themarina (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (3:54 pm) I don't have a home phone but we recently switched my parents to Shaw home phone service and when bundled with our cable, we got a bit of a deal (plus something like the first 3 months free). Service works fantastically well. They come in and do the install for free and even cancel your old provider. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (4:35 pm) Reply to: themarina I have a couple of friends who are using Shaw Digital phone and they have no complaints either. I knew a guy who worked for support with the digital phone and he said that often other phone companies would give them the runaround for customers switching! I will have to keep my eyes peeled for deals. Right now it's one month free if you sign up by Dec. 31, 2007. I already get my Internet and digital cable with Shaw! posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (10:38 pm) Can't help much on this one other to say that I have dealt with Quest here in the states and I like their service, don't even get me started on Bell/AT&T,ack. But we've been without a landline for nearly 3 years now, I've forgotten what it's like. lol posted by: bawdy (reply) post date: 12.14.07 (11:16 am) How could you not know Bell Telephone doesn't offer home phone service? lol And no, I doubt the tin cans and string work. String would not be a very good conductor of sound. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.14.07 (11:22 am) Reply to: FinalyFree Do you talk on the phone much? Maybe if I had a brick phone, I could do without a landline...But I insist on having a handset and one that I can put between my shoulder and my ear (or speakerphone). posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.14.07 (11:22 am) Reply to: bawdy I don't know! Every time I see their stores, I just think they're a cell phone provider and satellite TV provider! posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 12.14.07 (12:05 pm) Reply to: rosietulips I have a very good cell phone, and I use the heck out of it! My last cell phone was cheap and the quality wasn't very good but this Summer when it was time to renew my contract I got a good one with a good speaker phone, I also use a headset at times at home. I honestly don't miss the landline at all, especially since the kids all have their own phones and there's no fighting over the phone. posted by: twitchy67 (reply) post date: 12.14.07 (8:43 pm) Well, u know the industry i work in... I haven;t owned a land line phone since way back when i was in the wireless industry. Now it's all IP based... dirt cheap and easy. posted by: bawdy (reply) post date: 12.15.07 (11:51 am) Reply to: rosietulips Bell has been in business long before cell phones and satellite tv! It's always been my family's telephone company and I'm 43 now. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.17.07 (12:44 pm) Reply to: FinalyFree On the weekend, I saw this thing you could plug into your cell phone to turn it into a retro handset!! BWAHAHAA posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.17.07 (12:45 pm) Reply to: twitchy67 Is your company still looking for a tech writer? ;-) Anyway, how do you know which VoIP provider to go with?? posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.17.07 (12:46 pm) Reply to: bawdy Bell doesn't seem as big out west??
