Watchmen
03.09.09 (11:46 am)   [edit]

I'm not a fan of comics, but I often like the movies. I was looking forward to seeing Watchmen.

I even saw it in the IMAX theatre. I thought there'd be some good action and excitement at least. Maybe I would have felt differently if I had read the comics.

I thought movie was boring and long and plotless.

I barely remember the characters' names. I thought there was going to be a point to the movie, but all the flashbacks (which were cool) kind of confused things. Also, with all the flashbacks, it was great history of the characters, but I wasn't sure how they lended significance to the plot.

Good things about the movie were The Comedian (Denny on Grey's Anatomy woooo) and Rorschach (the child molester in Little Children). I liked some of the special effects. Okay, and it was neat to be brought back to a few decades ago. Oh, and one of my favourite anchormen has a spot in the movie! He played a newscaster! YEAH!

The sex scene was totally gratuitious. The actress in it...does she have to get naked in every single one of her movies? She already bared her boobs on Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. I expected better acting from her, too.

Actually, the best part of the movie was the naked blue penis. I kept trying to figure out it was circumsized or not and how they modelled that body...and was that character all CGI? That occupied my mind instead of the movie.

Yeah, not your typical "comic book" movie mostly because the graphic novel itself is now action packed.

As for Dr. Manhattan - there was a great interview with Billy Crudup in Men's Health in which he talked about the process of capturing his performance and if I remember right, it was a mix of motion capture and CG.

I never even heard of the graphic novel.

I think if you read the graphic novel you'd dig it; but it is certainly a complex plot and character line for someone coming in dry; imagine if they made the first season of Heroes or Lost into a 2 and a half hour movie; it would be far to complex and confusing to make sense if u didn't already know all the players. From what I understand they stuck pretty close to the graphic novel's story and dialog, so the gratuitous sex scene was already a gratuitous sex scene in the book. I haven't seen the movie yet, but now that I know there's boobies, i'm in. ;) j/k...i woulda been in without the boobies.

After thinking about it, I did find the movie visually appealing. I got a good understanding of the characters, but I could not figure out the point to the movie.
Not only are their boobies...there are man and women butts, too! And schlong! So much schlong!!!!

LOL the blue penis was all I could look at as well. I thought the movie was ok.. and I'm just not sure about the ending.
