posted by: Ryan (reply) post date: 12.23.04 (11:41 pm) Both Firefox and Opera use tabbed browsing, makes things so much easier. They're more secure when it comes to spyware as well... IE is the worst. Opera is good if you like having tons of pages open at once. Firefox is good all around, with the best security... ;) Hope that helps! posted by: telemachus (reply) post date: 12.23.04 (11:58 pm) I agree wiht Ryan, tabbed browsing makes things so much easier. Also Firefox has excellent plugins available, such as adblock and web developer. Adblock does what its name says, and can even get rid of annoying flash. Web developer has heaps of features, such as browser resize, html validation, outlining of frames and table cells, etc. Also you can change text size on the fly - handy if the web page has small text. You can skin Firefox too - dress it up with a schmick skin (like Noia) and you will realise how haggard IE is. Also Firefox is being actively developed, is much more secure and is eminently customisable. I used to use Opera before Firefox but I think Firefox is better. As for trillian, haven't used it since I moved over to Gaim. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 12.24.04 (6:32 am) Windows XP service Pack 2 includes a much more secure version of IE, so I see no need for a third party browser. posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.24.04 (10:37 am) Reply to: Ryan Thanks for your input :) I used Opera in the past, but then I lost it when I had to format my machine. I don't recall thinking all that highly of it!! Can't you avoid spyware if you just stay away from the porn sites?? posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.24.04 (10:38 am) Reply to: telemachus Thanks for your input :) i might check out Firefox for myself, but I hate installing software that I am not sure about. I guess I like being a minimalist when it comes to my computer. I've tried Opera, too, but that was a while back. posted by: lynne (reply) post date: 12.25.04 (4:43 am) I use firefox and I really like it. It blocks the popups that I don't want. It has really reduced the amount of spyware I have been seeing. I think the pages load faster than IE too. The tabbed browsing is nice. The google toolbar is nice. Bloglines, which I use for RSS feeds for non-tblog blogs, is integrated into it. I also use the "live bookmarks" function for news sites. So, what can I say, I am sold on firefox posted by: rosietulips (reply) post date: 12.26.04 (11:03 am) Reply to: lynne *teehee* The geeks seem to like Firefox!! But do pages show up properly?? Is Firefox forgiving? posted by: mblog (reply) post date: 12.26.04 (2:30 pm) Reply to: newbie It's the folks who see no need for security who are the ones who get burned. |
